Persuasive Writing
Advantages: Write On 40 and 41

This homeschool writing contest starts January 10 and concludes April 15, 2011. All submissions must be received by April 15, 2011.

Prizes
There will be two age groups

  • Ages 8 to 12
  • Ages 13 to 17
The winner of each age group will receive a United States Savings Bond, $50 denomination.

The contest will judge the ability to use the 5 W's to report an event.

You will need Write On #20 and 21
from Write On: The Kid Friendly, Mother Pleasing Gentle Way to Learn to Write. You may use it from the text or Download it here.


Directions

  • Read Write On 40 and 41 and follow the directions in the direction boxes of each page.
  • Choose an activity that you will try to persuade others has important advantages.
  • You will submit your essay in the three parts: I)Brainstorm advantages, II) Organize advantages, III)Your essay on your advantages
  • The length of the third part (essay) is different for the two age groups:
    • 8 - 12 year old writers: 150 to 400 words
    • 13 to 17 year old writers: 300 to 500 words
  • The submission box will appear on this page on January 10, 2011.


Directions
This contest is open to homeschool students between the ages of 8 and 17.
Parents may assist younger children in typing their submission in the submission box for younger students. The work must be the students.
Plagarism will disqualify an essay.

Essays will be judged on quality of writing, organization, paragraph development, descriptive phrases, and ability to persuade.

Winner - Age 8 - 12: Tae Kwon Do - Truitt, Age 10
Winner - Age 13 - 17: Veganism - Rebecca, Age 15
